ASCIIMachine is a free real-time ASCII audio visualizer. It listens to a microphone, local music file, or browser tab and translates the sound into responsive 3D scenes built from typographic characters.

Sound becomes structure

The instrument analyzes rhythm, energy, bass, mids, high frequencies, kicks, and transients. Those signals do not simply change a color or scale a waveform. They shape terrain, particles, botanical forms, figures, architecture, and other procedural scenes with different motion personalities.

Every frame is converted into an ASCII character grid in real time. You can choose the typeface, character ramp, density, colors, response strength, and scene behavior while the music continues.

How to use ASCIIMachine

  1. Choose microphone, system or browser-tab audio, or a local audio file.
  2. Start the visualizer and switch between nine audio-reactive 3D scenes.
  3. Tune the ASCII font, characters, colors, scale, motion, and audio response—or capture a still image.

ASCIIMachine is designed for musicians, visual artists, performers, designers, streamers, and anyone curious about generative typography. Use it as a live music visualizer, a source of monochrome motion studies, a performance backdrop, or a fast way to explore how sound can inhabit a three-dimensional form.

Private by design

Audio analysis happens on your device. ASCIIMachine does not upload, record, or store microphone audio or the local files you select. There are no accounts and no advertising trackers configured by us. Your visual preferences remain in local browser storage.

Technical requirements

ASCIIMachine runs on modern desktop browsers with JavaScript, WebGL, and the Web Audio API. Microphone and system-audio availability depends on browser permissions and operating-system support.
